Airén

Airén is a white grape variety native to Spain and, for many years, was the most widely planted grape in the world—largely due to its extensive cultivation in the hot, dry plains of central Spain, particularly in Castilla-La Mancha. Known for its drought resistance and high yields, Airén has traditionally been used for bulk wine production and brandy, valued more for its volume than for aromatic complexity. The wines it produces are typically light, neutral, and low in acidity, though careful vinification can yield fresh, easy-drinking whites with subtle notes of apple and citrus.
