Alicante

Alicante, located on Spain’s southeastern Mediterranean coast in the Valencia region, is known for its warm climate and diverse wine styles. The region is particularly famous for Monastrell (Mourvèdre), which thrives in the hot, dry conditions and produces bold, spicy reds with ripe fruit and earthy depth. Alicante is also home to Fondillón, a rare and historic oxidative dessert wine made from overripe Monastrell and aged for decades in barrel without fortification. With both traditional and modern producers at work, Alicante is gaining recognition for wines that combine Mediterranean richness with increasing balance and finesse.
