Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino is a prestigious DOCG wine from Tuscany, Italy, produced exclusively from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes—locally known as Brunello—grown around the hilltop town of Montalcino. The region’s warmer, drier climate compared to Chianti allows for fuller-bodied wines with deep concentration, firm tannins, and extended aging potential. Brunello must be aged a minimum of five years before release (six for Riserva), with at least two years in oak and four months in bottle. Notable producers include Biondi-Santi—the estate that pioneered the style—as well as Casanova di Neri, Altesino, and Poggio di Sotto. These wines are prized for their complex aromas of dark cherry, leather, tobacco, dried herbs, and their graceful evolution over decades.
