The Humboldt Current, also called the Peru Current, is a cold ocean current that flows northward along the Pacific coasts of Chile and Peru, cooling the coastal climate and generating fog and maritime breezes. In Chilean wine regions, this influence slows grape ripening and helps preserve acidity, aromatics, and moderate alcohol, particularly in coastal areas known for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir.
