The Monticello AVA is a historic Virginia wine region surrounding Charlottesville in the central Piedmont, along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains and near Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estate. Its rolling terrain, clay and granite-derived soils, and long growing season support grapes such as Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Viognier, Chardonnay, and Petit Manseng.
