Rheingau is a historic wine region in western Germany, situated along a short east-west stretch of the Rhine River where many vineyards face south toward the sun. The Taunus Mountains provide shelter from cold northern weather, while the river moderates temperature, creating a favorable climate for slow-ripening Riesling.
The region is strongly associated with dry and off-dry Riesling, as well as some of Germany’s most important noble sweet wines. Rheingau wines are often fuller and more structured than those of the Mosel, with citrus, peach, apricot, herbs, spice, and pronounced minerality, supported by firm acidity and notable aging potential.
