Sangiovese

Sangiovese is Italy’s most widely planted and historically important red wine grape, best known as the foundation of many of Tuscany’s most famous wines, including Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The grape is believed to have ancient origins and is highly expressive of terroir, producing different styles depending on climate, elevation, and winemaking approach.

Wines made from Sangiovese are typically medium to full-bodied with high acidity, firm tannins, and flavors of cherry, plum, dried herbs, earth, and spice. While traditionally associated with Italy, the grape is also grown in regions such as California and Australia, though its most celebrated expressions remain tied to the hills and soils of central Italy.
