The Sierra Foothills AVA is a large, mountainous wine region along the western slopes of California’s Sierra Nevada, stretching through historic Gold Rush country and containing smaller appellations such as El Dorado, Fair Play, and Shenandoah Valley. Its warm days, cool nights, varied elevations, and granite-rich soils support bold Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah, Rhône-style blends, and increasingly distinctive high-elevation whites.
