Slovenia is a small but important Central European wine nation located between the Alps, the Adriatic Sea, the Pannonian Plain, and the Balkans. Its three main wine regions, Primorska, Podravje, and Posavje, reflect strong climatic and cultural diversity, ranging from Mediterranean-influenced coastal vineyards to cooler continental hillsides.
The country produces wines from both international and regional varieties, including Rebula, Furmint, Malvazija, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Refosco, and Blaufränkisch. Slovenia is especially noted for precise white wines, skin-contact traditions, and small-scale producers whose best examples show clear terroir expression and a close relationship to neighboring Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia.
