Spain is one of the world’s great wine-producing nations, shaped by a largely elevated interior, surrounding mountain ranges, and climates that vary from cool Atlantic influence to hot, dry Mediterranean conditions. Rioja and Ribera del Duero are celebrated for Tempranillo-based reds, while Priorat, Bierzo, and regions across central and southern Spain contribute distinctive wines from Garnacha, Mencía, Monastrell, and many local grapes.
White wine is increasingly important, led by Albariño in Rías Baixas, Verdejo in Rueda, and varieties such as Godello and Xarel·lo. Spain also produces traditional-method Cava and the remarkable fortified wines of Jerez, giving the country one of the most diverse wine cultures in Europe.
