Umbria is a landlocked wine region in central Italy, bordered by Tuscany, Lazio, and Marche, with vineyards shaped by hills, river valleys, limestone, clay, and volcanic-influenced soils. The region is best known for Orvieto, a white wine traditionally based on Grechetto and Trebbiano, and Montefalco Sagrantino, a powerful red made from the deeply tannic Sagrantino grape.
