Albariño

Albariño is a high-quality white grape native to the Iberian Peninsula, most famously grown in the Rías Baixas region of Galicia in northwestern Spain, as well as in northern Portugal where it is known as Alvarinho. It thrives in the cool, maritime climate of these coastal areas, producing wines that are fresh, aromatic, and crisp, with natural acidity and a slight saline edge. Typical flavor notes include citrus, green apple, white peach, and floral tones, often with a touch of minerality that reflects its Atlantic-influenced terroir. While typically enjoyed young for its vibrant character, top examples can gain texture and complexity with short aging or lees contact.
