Amarone della Valpolicella
Amarone della Valpolicella is a prestigious DOCG red wine produced in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, primarily from Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes. Its distinctive character comes from appassimento, a traditional process in which harvested grapes are dried for approximately three to four months, concentrating sugars, flavors, and phenolic compounds before fermentation. Unlike the sweet wines also produced through this method, Amarone is fermented to a dry or nearly dry style, resulting in a full-bodied, powerful wine with elevated alcohol, rich dark fruit flavors, and notes of dried cherries, chocolate, and spice. Recognized as one of Italy's great age-worthy red wines, Amarone demonstrates how traditional winemaking techniques can transform regional grape varieties into wines of remarkable concentration, complexity, and longevity.
