Tempranillo
Tempranillo is Spain’s signature red grape, best known for its role in the wines of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. It typically produces medium- to full-bodied wines with flavors of cherry, plum, dried herbs, tobacco, and leather. The grape has moderate acidity and tannin, making it approachable when young but also capable of aging beautifully, especially with oak. Tempranillo often takes on vanilla, spice, cedar, and coconut notes when matured in American or French barrels. Its style can range from fresh and fruit-driven to powerful, structured, and complex depending on the region and winemaking.
