Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna is special because wine and food are inseparable from the region’s identity, and few places in Italy have contributed more iconic products to the table. It is the home of Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena, mortadella, tortellini, and ragù alla Bolognese, creating one of Europe’s richest gastronomic cultures. Its wines are equally distinctive, especially Lambrusco, which at its best is dry, lively, savory, and exceptionally well suited to the region’s rich foods. Romagna adds another dimension with Sangiovese, Albana, and increasingly serious still wines that are often overshadowed by neighboring Tuscany. What makes Emilia-Romagna remarkable is the way acidity, salt, fat, cured meats, cheese, pasta, and refreshing wines all evolved together into a complete regional food-and-wine culture.
