England is making some seriously good sparkling wine, particularly from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier using the traditional method. Its cool climate and long growing season help preserve the high acidity and freshness that great sparkling wine needs, while extended lees aging can add real complexity and texture. English sparkling has moved well beyond novelty status, earning international recognition and becoming one of the country’s strongest wine categories. Champagne still has centuries of history and identity behind it, but England has become a legitimate part of the conversation around world-class sparkling wine.
